130th Anniversary of 1884 Port Perry Fire

Published on Jul 3, 2014

Photographer Celia Klemenz and reporter Chris Hall did some brainstorming to figure out the best way to illustrate the 1884 Port Perry fire and how the town developed since. After scribbling down some ideas, the two decided that the story needed to come to life through video and that viewers needed a blast from the past. Who better to describe what had happened to the town than current mayor Chuck Mercier and a historical figure? Those who live in Port Perry know that Joseph Bigelow is truly the town’s father, especially with Bigelow Street named after him. The reporters believed that Mr. Bigelow, portrayed in our video by historian Paul Arculus, and Mayor Mercier could bring both a past and fresh perspective to the story. We hope you enjoy it.
