Scugog Shores Museum Village & Archives

The Lake Scugog Historical Society (LSHS) was founded by local citizens in 1969 to stimulate interest in the history of Scugog Township. In 1974, LSHS founded and operated the Scugog Shores Museum until 2005, helping to establish one of the region’s most important cultural and educational resources.

Today, while we operate independently, LSHS continues to support the Scugog Shores Museum Village as we work together and collaborate on shared goals of preserving, protecting, and promoting local history.

Each year, LSHS contributes funding toward key Museum projects. In 2023, we helped install a furnace in the historic Lee House. In 2025, we proudly supported the Museum’s Accessibility Plan, which will make almost all heritage buildings on-site accessible and include new pathways for visitors with mobility needs. These projects reflect our joint commitment to making Scugog’s heritage accessible to all.

LSHS members also frequently access the Museum’s genealogy archives and historical research collections. These resources are vital for those researching family history, historic properties, or Scugog’s early communities.

We look forward to continuing to support the Museum on projects that strengthen our community’s connection to its heritage and broaden opportunities for learning and engagement.
