Research Resources

Explore Our Historical Resourcess

The Lake Scugog Historical Society offers a range of resources to support historical and genealogical research, as well as to deepen community connections to Scugog’s past.

Our Scugog Heritage Gallery, available via a link on our website, features downloadable publications, historic maps, timelines, biographies, and a collection of over 250 historic photographs and postcards. These materials provide valuable insights into the people, places, and stories that have shaped our township.

We are also excited to have newspapers from 1857-2015 digitized and available by visiting the Scugog Digital Newspaper Collection linked under the “Research Resources” tab on our home page. This is a great place to start if you are looking for the stories of specific people or families.

For more in-depth research, we help to maintain a growing archive of family histories, documents, and records. While these materials are not yet publicly accessible online, they are available through inquiries. Our network of local historians and Board members—each with expertise in different areas of Scugog’s history—are happy to assist with genealogy questions and historical inquiries.

We also share recommended readings, research tips, and external links to help the public explore local people, properties, and events from around the Scugog area.

The Society partners with the Scugog Public Library for our popular Speaker Series and digital preservation initiatives. We are also working with other local historical groups to form a North Durham heritage network for collaborative marketing and programming. The Manvers Historical Society is also lending its support to exhibits like the Scugog Fair display shown in Blackstock.

All resources can be accessed through our website or by contacting the Society directly. Whether you’re researching your family tree or exploring the history of your community, we’re here to help.
